A Not So Sleazy Time at Sleaze Ball..

Last weekend started with an Eire of Excitement, for the time had come. It had been years in the making and I was about to take the leap. To venture where I had not ventured before (and there are very few of those places) and break my Sleaze Ball Cherry. That’s right I headed to my first Sleaze. Now let’s just say I was a tad excited, I was anticipating something similar to the Mardi Gras parties but a bit more dirty and a bit more out there. Hence my disappointment upon arrival.

Sleaze ball was about one quarter the size of the Mardi Gras after party. Now I understand how they were able to so proudly boast a sell out. The ratio is simple cut the number of available tickets and the floor space of the venue and you are guaranteed a sell out. Speaking to a few people on the night I was surprised to learn that it was indeed the smallest set up they had seen for a Sleaze Ball, including only the Hordern Pavilion and a small forecourt area the size of venue was most unimpressive.

Now all this negativity is not to say that I didn’t have a good time… it was a fun night and the shows the costumes and regalia were most enjoyable. The acts also proved most entertaining…

However I do have concerns over the future of this event considering that whilst organizers have boasted of the 5000 strong crowd and declared the event a success. Many of the punters I spoke to during the evening were declaring they would not fork out the $140 for a ticket next year.

The biggest news from the night was the announcement of the theme for the 2009 Mardi Gras: United Nations.
